The Countess in her capacity as a Patron, visited England Hockey team members at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre. The Countess has been their Patron since January 2007. Please read my post on that subject here.
I’m sure, most of the royal watchers remember Duchess of Cambridge visit to the Riverside Arena in the Olympic Park on March 15, 2012 in London. But today, it was The Countess who tried her skills at hockey. Sophie played with England player Shona McCallin. HRH said afterwards: “I always really enjoyed playing hockey, it’s so much more than just a team sport. Hockey has a great social side and is a thoroughly enjoyable game to both play and watch.”

The Countess also talked to staff and players from both National teams and observed a training session as both teams prepare for a summer: they will compete for medals at both the Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands in June, and the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, in August. HRH was presented with an England hockey shirt by men’s coach Bobby Crutchley and captain Barry Middleton.
Afterwards, HRH had lunch with hockey team members. Judging from few tweets, even though at first players were intimidated, everyone enjoyed it very much. Sally Walton is a Great Britain & England hockey player. Olympic Bronze medalist. I can share another image from today, courtesy of Georgie Twigg, hockey player who has played for England and Great Britain since 2010. She won a bronze medal with GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
